Air freight is bought for time, not for distance
Air freight moves cargo to distant countries and continents in the shortest available terms, and that speed is the whole reason to pay for it. It earns its cost on consignments where arriving late is expensive: production lines waiting on a part, a seasonal order that loses its value once the season passes, a tender with a fixed delivery date, or goods whose shelf life is measured in days.
It is most economical on light-volume, high-value cargo, where freight is a small fraction of what the goods are worth. On dense, heavy, low-value shipments the arithmetic reverses and sea freight is the right answer. We would rather quote you the cheaper mode and keep the customer than win one expensive booking.

What it costs, and why quotes differ
Air freight is charged on chargeable weight, which is the greater of the actual gross weight and the volumetric weight derived from the consignment's dimensions. A light but bulky shipment is therefore charged on the space it fills, which is why two consignments of identical weight can be quoted very differently.
Rates also move with the season, the direction of trade on a lane, and how much belly capacity airlines are releasing that week. Anyone quoting a fixed per-kilo figure without seeing dimensions, commodity, and destination is guessing. Send the packing list and we will price the consignment as it actually is.
Clearance at both ends
Most air freight that goes wrong does not go wrong in the air. It goes wrong on the ground, when a consignment lands in a country where nobody has been instructed to clear it, or when a declaration does not match the goods. UCL Cargo files the export entry in Pakistan directly, and maintains working relationships with customs brokers and agents at destination so the import entry is made by someone who deals with that authority daily.
That network is also what makes door delivery possible after clearance, including direct perishable forwarding to Toronto, Oslo, Amsterdam, Paris, London, and Manchester.

How long does air freight from Pakistan take?
Transit depends on the lane and whether the booking is direct or routed through a hub. What is usually underestimated is the ground time at either end: export customs in Pakistan and import clearance at destination often account for more of the total than the flight itself. We quote the realistic door-to-door window at booking, including clearance, rather than quoting flight time alone.
When is air freight cheaper than sea freight?
Air freight suits light, high-value consignments where the cost of capital tied up in slow-moving stock, or the risk of missing a season, outweighs the higher freight rate. Sea freight wins on dense, heavy, low-value cargo. The crossover is decided by chargeable weight rather than actual weight, because airlines charge on whichever is greater of actual and volumetric weight.
What is chargeable weight and volumetric weight?
Airlines charge on chargeable weight, which is the greater of actual gross weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is calculated from the dimensions of the consignment, so bulky but light cargo is charged on the space it occupies rather than what it weighs. Reducing carton size or packing more densely often lowers the freight cost more than reducing weight does.
What goods can be sent as air freight?
Almost any commodity can move by air in suitable packaging, including medical equipment, machinery and machine parts, food supplies, motor vehicles and vehicle parts, and live animals. Dangerous goods and chemical components can also be carried, but only when correctly classified, packed, labelled, and declared under IATA dangerous goods rules, which must be arranged before the booking is made.
Do you handle customs clearance as well as the flight?
Yes. Export clearance in Pakistan is handled in house, and at destination we work through established networks of agents and customs brokers so the consignment is entered by someone local to that jurisdiction. Keeping the freight booking and the clearance under one arrangement is what prevents cargo sitting at an airport because nobody was instructed to clear it.
Can you charter an aircraft for a single shipment?
Yes. Charter is used where a consignment is too large or too urgent for scheduled belly space, where cargo cannot be split across flights, or where a project shipment has to arrive as one consolidated load. Charter is quoted per movement against the routing, aircraft type, and payload, because none of those can be assumed in advance.
